Learning

We strive to provide a broad based, balanced, coherent curriculum which satisfies the needs of the pupils in our care. Children work at levels which are appropriate to their aptitude and capability. Children may be taught as a class, in groups or as an individual. A mixture of formal and informal methods are used to deliver the curriculum. The National Curriculum provides the centre around which the school's curriculum is built. Early Years lessons at Burton Morewood are taught following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We are delighted to have, in previous years, been awarded a Kite Mark for excellence in Early Years and a Leading Aspect Award.

The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 primary national curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. It is based on a child-centred pedagogy called The Four Cornerstones and is delivered through Knowledge Rich Projects, which provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of children’s learning.
